Strontium ions have been recognized as the toxic metal ions in high-level radioactive-wastes. The two stage ion-exchange separation-method was studied for the separation of Sr2+ in alkaline earth metal ions, such as barium ions (Ba2+), strontium ions (Sr2+), calcium ions (Ca2+) and magnesium ions (Mg2+) . Dihydrogen tetratitanate hydrate fibers were used to separate Sr2+ from Ba2+ in first stage. After Ba2+ were separated from Sr2+, Amberlite200CT was used as an ion-exchanger, and the aqueous phase containing three kinds of alkaline earth metal ions (Sr2+, Ca2+, Mg2+) with Cryptand [2.2.2] as a second stage. Although Ca2+ and Mg2+ were exchanged onto Amberlite200CT, only Sr2+ was stayed in the aqueous solution by Cryptand [2.2.2] effect. By the two stage separation method, Sr2+ can be separated from other three kinds of alkaline earth metal ions. This work was done using non-radioactive elements for the simulation of high-level radioactive wastes.
