The distribution coefficients of some metal ions that exist in high-level radioactive waste on chloride-form tertiary pyridine-type anion exchange resin were determined in various combinations of methanol—hydrochloric acid mixed solution. Compared to the results obtained in aqueous hydrochloric acid solution, the distribution coefficient values of some metal ions such as Co (II) and Zr (IV) obtainable in methanol—hydrochloric acid mixed solutions are frequently much higher. The results clarify that the fission product elements—of alkali, alkaline earth and the rare earth elements—are easily separated from most of the transition elements, uranium and TRU elements in a methanol—hydrochloric acid mixed media using the tertiary pyridine resin.
