The metal ion selective polymer beads including chelating resins functionalized with multidentate ligands, extractant-impregnated resins and composite adsorbents formed with inorganic oxides and organic polymers have been developed and their adsorption properties for the metal ions have been examined.
The present resins have revealed the characteristic selectivities based on the reagents chemically modified or loaded on the polymer interior. We have proposed to apply the metalselective resins to the separation and concentration of industrially important rare metals i. e., gallium, indium, molybdenum, noble metals and rare earths. The present resin beads have selectively adsorbed the rare metals from the solutions containing large amount of common metals. The chromatographic separation of rare earth metals has been demonstrated using the selective resins as the column stationary phase and diluted acid solutions as the mobile phase.
