The permeability for gases, K, of the carbonacious materials was measured over a wide range such as K=10+2-10-6 cm2/sec. Measured samples were ordinary artificial graphites (K =10+2-10-1) and impregnated graphites (K =10-1-10-6) . The permeability of an extremely impermeable graphite (K<10-11) was also measured.<BR>The flow of gases through graphite was expressed as a general equation including a parameter Z, which was defined as the fraction of the viscous flow to the whole gas flow. Using this equation, the permeability could be determined conventinally from the time-pressure increase relation.
