Hemangiopericytoma is a rare vascular tumor characterized as being composed of capillaries surrounded by spindle shaped or round cells called Zimmermann's pericytes.
A 60-year-old male was referred to our clinic because of a 4.0×3.5 cm, slowlygrowing, painless mass in the left parotid region. He had no facial weakness and no cervical lymphadenopathy. A CT scan confirmed the tumor was in the deep lobe of the parotid gland. The tumor was removed together with the deep lobe of the parotid gland preserving the facial nerve. Histological examination of the tumor revealed a malignant hemangioperycytoma characterized by proliferation of perivascular arrangement of tumor cells, and the tumor was excised with a sufficient margin.
He had no evidence of recurrence and metastasis 7 years and 6 months postoperatively.
