We had a clinical study of patients over seventy years old with primary squamous cell carcinoma in the oral and maxillofacial regions at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Yamaguchi University Hospital from 1984 to 1990.<BR>During these years we treated 105 cases of primary squamous cell carcinoma in the oral and maxil. lofacial region.340f these cases were over seventy yearspatients old (32.4%).18 cases were male and 16 were female (1.1: 1).<BR>The primary tumors were on the gingiva in ll cases (32.4%), tongue 7 cases (20.6%), mouth floor 7cases, maxillary sinus 7 cases, and so on.<BR>55.9%of the patients had systemic complications.<BR>The prognosis of patients treated by radical operation was better, than those treated by radiotherapy.<BR>The 5 year survival rate was as follows: stage I+II (42.2%), stage III+IV: 34.9% and all cases: 38.0%.
