This paper proposes a weighted averaging method for noise reduction in the measurement of neuromagnetic response. In the measurement of biomagnetism, there are various kinds of noise whose amplitude changes widely in a short time. Therefore, a noise reduction technique is of considerable importance. In the proposed weighted averaging method, a weighting factor is determined according to the mass of noise in the data of one time record. When the noise is large, the weighting factor is determined to be small, and when the noise is small, the weighting factor is determined to be large. The computer simulation was performed to investigate the effect of weighted averaging. We observed that the weighted averaging method is effective for the data whose signal is much smaller than the noise. We believe that the weighted averaging method is useful for the measurement in which the noise is much greater than the signal, such as a neuromagnetic response.
