We developed a simple procedure to prepare an electrophoretic display featuring a capsule-like structure. An insulating liquid medium (oil) was dispersed in an aqueous gelatin solution as oil droplets. The droplets incorporated TiO2 particles as the electrophoretic particles. The particle-incorporating oil droplets were coated on an electrode as monolayer. The gelatin formed the wall of the droplets by drying. The EPD cell thus constructed shows an optical response by applying a DC voltage and good stability of the black and white states.
