In this papar, a new type of externally pressurized thrust gas-bearing with a flow control ring is proposed and the static characteristics, step response and frequency response of angular displacement are investigated. The bearing uses O-ring support as the restoring mechanism of the flow control ring. The stiffness of the restoring force is optimally adjusted by controlling the sealed pressure between the rings. The bearing yields an infinite angular stiffness through control of the supply pressure, bearing clearance and restoring stiffness. It is found that the bearing is quite stable against external disturbance such as step loading and cyclic loading. Frequency response shows that the angular stiffness can be held infinity high unless the frequency of the applied moment exceeds 10 Hz.
