Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) has facilitated safer, more convenient, and less uncomfortable pelvic angiography for the patient. Moreover, the time density curve for contrast medium in a lesion can be quantitatively analyzed by computing the digital data for the visual images of the tumor.
In this study, we applied DSA in the quantitative analysis of lesions of patients with persistent trophoblastic disease by computing the time density curve of contrast medium in tumor lesions and analyzed the following 3 parameter s : 1) minimum time to peak ; 2) upward slope ; and, 3) downward slope
We found that the time density curve of patients with invasive mole showed wash-out pattern, in which the density of the contrast medium decreased smoothly after reaching its peak, while that in patients with choriocarcinoma showed accumulation with retention of the contrast medium in the tumor lesion.
These observations suggest that the quantitative analysis of persistent trophoblastic disease using DSA can be useful in the differential diagnosis of invasive mole and choriocarcinoma.
