The cytological and histological findings in a case of primary carcinoma of the fallopian tube, a relatively rare gynecological tumor, are described.A 56-year-old woman complained of abnormal genital bleeding. Adenocarcinoma cells with a tree-like appearance and small grape-like formations were observed in the aspiration smear from the uterine cavity. A small piece of tissue obtained at the same time showed papillary adenocarcinoma. No abnormalities were seen in the endometrium on hysteroscopy.At laparotomy the left tube was found to be enlarged and. sausage-shaped, but its surface was intact. There were no abnormal findings in the uterus, ovaries or right tube.The diagnosis was carcinoma of the left tube, and an abdominal semiradical hysterectomy with bilateral adnexectomy was performed.Histological examination revealed papillary, partially alveolar primary adenocarcinoma of the left tube with a metastasis in the right ovary.After surgery she received chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and is living without recurrence more than 8 years postoperatively.
