Human tumor stem cell assay for gynecological malignant tumors.

Colony forming ability of cancer cells from gynecological malignant tumors was studied and the in vitro evaluation of anticancer drug efficacy was performed using the human tumor stem cell assay, and correlation between the in vitro and clinical response was analyzed retrospectively.The present study included 56 samples obtained from a total of 33 patients consisting of 18 with ovarian cancer, 4 with metastatic ovarian cancer, 7 with uterine corpus cancer, 2 with uterine cervical cancer, 1 with tubal cancer and 1 with colon cancer.The colony forming rate of the all samples was 81.6% and the median plating efficiency was 0.0147%.The chemosensitivity was compared between primary lesion and the metastases, and between different metastases of the same patient. No correlation of sensitivity to anticancer drugs was seen between primary lesion and the metastases. On the other hand, there was a strong association in drug sensitivity between different metastases. So we suggest that the drug sensitivity results from a metastatic lesion may be about the same as that from other metastatic lesions.
