A Feline Case of Intrathoracic Tracheal Stenosis.

A 3-year-old male Japanese domestic cat was presented because of continuous coughing for one month. Thoracic radiographs demonstrated tracheal stenosis proximal to the carina, fracture of the dorsal spinous process at the 4th thoracic vertebra and subcutaneous emphysema. Treatment with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs was initiated, but unsuccessful. Surgical impairment was carried out on the 14th day after the first admission, when the patient showed severe intermittent dyspnea. A right lateral thoracotomy was made at the 4th intercostal space. The trachea with stenosis was isolated and removed. Simple interrupted sutures (4-0 nylon) penetrating the cartilage were performed. After the operation, respiratory disturbance was gradually improved and disappeared in 2 months.
