To evaluate Chromobacterium violaceumand its ability to produce and decompose cyanide for Au bioleaching, the cyanide decomposition ability of self-produced cyanide C. violaceum was examined. The results of the experiments showed that C. violaceum was resistant to 5.Ommol/l KCN. It also revealed that cyanide decomposition actively occurred from the late exponential growth phase to the stationary phase and was stimulated by the addition of 10mmol/l glutamate. C.violaceum could decompose self-produced cyanide and the addition of glucose with glutamate could inhibit cyanide reproduction in a glycine added YP medium where C.violaceum can produce higher concentration of cyanide. In this study desirable conditions of applyingC.violaceum on Au bioleaching were revealed.
