Thirty- seven cases with mucoepideromid tumor of the minor salivary glands treated at the First Department of Oral and Maxillofaciall Surgery, Tokyo Medical and Dental University during a 18-year period were reviewed.Age and sex: The age of the patients range from 8 to 80 years old and the average age was 47.3 years. There were 16 men and 21 women.Site: The lesions were most frequently found in the palate.Initial symptoms and duration: The initial symptoms were painless swelling, the time from initial symptoms to the first visit to our clinic ranged from 2 weeks to 25 years. The average period was 3 years 9 months.Stage classification: About 60% were classified into stage II and about 31% into stage I.Histological type: 75% of the lesions were grade I.Treatment and results of treatment: 32 cases were treated by surgery, 4 by radiation, 1 by a conbination of surgery and radiation. The recurrence rate of grade II and grade III cases were higher than grade I cases. Cumulative survival rate of the 32 cases treated by surgery was 92.0% at 10 years.
