Chromate solution has been used as a standard in the colorimetric determination of silicon in sea water, and some reports have stated that 1 mole of chromate is equivalent to 0.51 moles of silicon. The authors, however, point out that the factor is questionable and it varies with wave length, and with concentration of silicon to be determined when a filter-photometer is used.
