In 1973, eighty-one milkers used by dairy farmers were chcked on their function. The negative pressure inside of the milker was examined by an air flow meter and the frequency and ratio of pulsation by a pulsator recorder. As a result, fifty-three milkers (65.4%) had some functional failures. In general, the longer a milker was used, the less efficiently it worked. Few users were aware of a decrease in the function of their miklers. The functional failure of the milker deteriorated the quality of milk, as well as the efficiency of mikling, and decreased milk yields.<BR>After it was removed, milk positive for CMT decreasedinquantity, milkyieldsincreased (22-27%), the incidence of mastitis decreased, and the milking time was curtailed by 33%.
