Identification of distribution patterns and decreasing processes of prime farmlands for multi-crop agriculture: A Case Study in Hiki region, Saitama prefecture.

An evalution framework of farmland for "multi-crop"agriculture was developed. The framework was then applied to the study area in Saitama Prefecture to identify present distribution patterns and decreasing processes of prime farmlands for multi-crop agriculture. Spatial analysis of prime farmlands by the distance from nearest railway station illustrated that the distribution patterns of prime farmland are similar to that of urban area. Periodic analysis of the farmland distribution in the study area illustrated that the percentage of decreased prime farmlands by means of urban development was higher than those of 2nd and 3rd class farmlands.
