A new face wash formulation containing 1% benzalkonium cetyl phosphate as a bactericide was used for thirteen patients with acne vulgaris and tested on the clinical efficiency as well as the patient satisfaction and side effects, in order to compare to a commercial face wash formulated with 0.3% Irgasan® DP-300, in addition to the new face wash formulation without the bactericide as a control. The new face wash, in which the better clinical efficiency was shown than the control, was found the same in the clinical performance as the commercial face wash. Looking at the patient satisfaction, the new face wash was ranked good in acne control performance as well as the commercial face wash, while the formulation without the bactericide performed poor. On the other hand, the side effects such as irritation and dry skin of the new face wash was higher than the commercial face wash.
