A 60-year-old male with contact dermatitis due to BENTOS® eye lotion is reported. Closed patch testing with BENTOS® (as is) was positive, while tests with the components of BENTOS®, befunolol hydrochloride 1%pet, befunolol hydrochloride 0.5%pet, befunolol hydrochloride 0.1%pet and benzalkonium chloride 1%pet, were also positive. However, a patch testing with 0.02% benzalkonium chloride (aq) obtained from the Japanese Society for Contact Dermatitis was negative. So he positive reaction to benzalkonium chloride 0.1%pet was thought to be an irritant reaction.<BR>In this case, there was no cross reaction among the 3 kinds of β-blocker in the eye lotion (BENTOS®, MIKERAN®, TIMOPTOL®).
