A vasoconstrictor assay of the skin was performed with 5 preparations, Rinderon-V cream, Rinderon-V ointment, Rinderon-DP cream, Rinderon-DP ointment and Almeta ointment, by the occluded and unoccluded methods. The time of application were 2, 4 and 6 hours. Judgment was made twice, 2 and 4 hours after removal of cream or ointment. With cream base the average scores of blanching activity were higher when the occluded method was applied than when the unoccluded method was used. With ointment base the average scores of blanching activity were higher when the unoccluded method was applied for 6 hours than when the occluded method was used. When unoccluded method was applied for 6 hours with cream bases the average scores of blanching act ivity showed the same values as obtained after the occluded method was used for 4 hours.<BR>Based on the above results we consider that application of 6 hours-unoccluded method is not necessarily required, and 4 hours-occluded method is sufficient for the purpose
