Chain extension and orientation as functions of molecular weight, strain rate and drawing stress (σ) were examined for Nylon 6 above the static melting point. The intrinsic viscosity of the sample was in the range of 8.6 to 11.3 dL/g. At a drawing temperature of 240°C, the achieved maximum draw ratio (<I>DR</I>max) decreased with increasing a strain rate. With increasing the strain rate, the σ increased, leading to the suppression of disentanglement of molecular chains. The α and γ-crystals were formed in the drawn samples. The content of each type of crystals was dependent on the drawing stress, and the higher the stress, the higher was the content of α-crystals.
