This paper describes cooperative reorientation generated by linearly polarized ultraviolet (LPUV) light and subsequent annealing in composite films consisting of photocrosslinkable polymer liquid crystals (PLC) and various kinds of non-liquid crystalline (non-LC) monomers containing a biphenyl group. The generated reorientation depended on the type of the monomer; the melting point of the monomerplayed an important role for the cooperative reorientation. The orientational order (<I>S</I>) of 0.37 was obtained. The reorientation direction was parallel to the polarization of the LPUV light. Three-dimensional reorientation of the mesogenic groups was demonstrated using slantwise LPUV light exposure.
