The morphology of sectional layers for several acrylate copolymers/P (VDF-HFA) (30/70) blends was investigated by SEM. The blends of the acrylate copolymers composed of 2-ethylhexyl acrylate with P (VDF-HFA) were immiscible and the gradient structures were formed in these sectional layers. The elipsoidal domains of acrylate copolymer particles were observed. The domain size increased from surface to bottom. Particularly, an acrylate copolymer layer of about 10 μm thickness was observed in these blend films. But a blend of the acrylate copolymers composed of methyl acrylate with P (VDF-HFA) (30/70) was miscible and did not exhibit any gradient structure. For the blends exhibiting gradient structure, as the probe tack of the bottom is remarkably larger than that of the surface, we expect that these blends could be utilized as a new pressure sensitive adhesive tape without backing.
