Intrinsic viscosity [η], number average molecular weight <I>M<SUB>n</SUB></I>, and weight average molecular weight <I>M<SUB>w</SUB></I>, measured in a θ-solvent, were analyzed as a function of conversion. Polymerization mechaism was studied in terms of these quantities. In order to analyze the data, we used the method developed by Zimm, Stockmayer, Kilb, Kurata, Coleman <I>et</I> <I>al</I>. Results obtained are as follows: (1) <I>n</I>-dodecylmercaptan (<I>n</I>-DDM) not only reacts with propagating radicals to regulate primary molecular weight but also directly suppress branching. (2) In the presense of <I>n</I>-DDM, number of branching is less than that in its absence. In the initial to middle stage of polymerization, branching is suppressed intensively. (3) In the low conversion region, this polymerization system principally consists of propagation and chain transfer with <I>n</I>-DDM.
