Photosensitizer polymers with penant photosensitizer groups and chloromethyl group were synthesized by radical copolymerizations of methacrylic esters with photosensitizer groups and chloromethylstyrene. And then photosensitive polymers with pendant photosensitizer and photosensitive groups were prepared by substitution reactions of the obtained photosensitizer polymers with potassium salt of photoreactive carboxylic acids such as cinnamic acid and sodium azide using phase transfer catalyst in aprotic polar solvents. The rates of the photochemical reactions of the obtained photosensitive polymers were measured by IR spectrometry. From these results, it was found that the pendant cinnamic ester in the polymers is sensitized effectively by the pendant photosensitizer groups such as N-carbonyl-p-nitrophenylamine, N-carbonyl-4-nitro-1-naphthylamine, and benzophenone moieties. The pendant crotonic ester in the polymers is sensitized by the pendant benzoin ester and benzophenone moieties. The rate of the photodegradation of the pendant alkylazide group in the polymers is promoted by the pendant photosensitizer groups.
