The light in the artifical-diet-rearing seems to exert adverse effect on the larval growth in two ways; directly on larvae themselves and indirectly on larvae through the deterioration of the diets by light exposure. This paper deals with the latter effect. The effect of a 72-hour illumination of monochromatic light (400, 500, 600, 700nm) on the food value of an artificial diet containing mulberry leaf powder on that of a semi-synthetic diet without mulberry leaf powder were examind. 1) The food value of the artificial diet containing 22% mulberry leaf powder was lowered specifically by the illumination at 400nm. The semi-synthetic diet was not influenced by any wavelength of light tested. 2) The effect of illumination at 400nm on the soybean oil in the diet was examined, but the illumination did not effect virtually the dietary value at the light intensity used in this experiment. 3) The dietary ascorbic acid was oxidized rather quickly, but illumination did not accelerate its oxidation.
