Study on Clinical Effect of an Anticancer Drug Euchresta Japonica (1. Report)

Nitta (one of the authors) reported in the last general meeting of The Association for Oriental Medicine in Japan that the root of a crude drug (Sanzukon, Euchresta japonica) has the outstanding anti-cancer effect against Yoshida ascites sarcoma and ascites liver cancer of rats.<BR>According to his report, the authors investigated the clinical action of the root of Euchresta japonica in 30 cases of several kinds of cancer and another malignant tumor; one complete healing, 5 distinguished improvements, and 10 remarkable improvement of several clinical symptoms have been observed. Although 9 cases among them showed temporary the slight improvement, they died under marasmus. In another 5 cases we could see no effect.<BR>From the results of our experimental and clinical studies we would like to conclude that the root of Euchresta japonica can be used as an effective anticancer drug.
