In the exercise of long distance running, it was found that a benzidine reactive substance appeared in blood plasma, especially immediately after exercise. Therefore, it was presumed that the substance might be hemoglobin and/or myoglobin. The present investigation was carried out in order to determine whether the substance was identical with hemoglobin or myoglobin. As a result, it was found that the substance was identical with hemoglobin by the aid of paper and cellulose acetate electrophoresis. Furthermore, the present paper dealt with the observation of changes of hemoglobin appeared in blood plasma following exercise. That is, hemoglobin appeared in blood plasma in the middle of, or immediately after exercise, and disappeared rapidly. Some discussion was given to the mechanism by which hemolysis occurred during exercise.
