Organic impure compounds in D & C Orange No. 17 were analysed by TLC. 2, 4-Dinitroaniline (DNA), 2, 4, 6-Trinitroaniline (TNA), and β-Naphthol (NAP) were found (Fig. 3 and Fig. 4).Determination of the mixture of these compounds was difficult without separation of each and removal of coloring materials.Simple, convenient separation and determination methods were studied.DNA was separated from TNA and NAP by Ion exchange column chromatography.NAP could be determined by spectrophotometry in coexistence of TNA.TNA could not be determined without separation of NAP by carbon black adsorption column chromatography.Coloring materials were adsorbed strongly on the resin employed and were not found in effluent collected.Present paper describes analysis of DNA, TNA and NAP in D & C Orange No. 17 carried out successfully by Ion exchange column chromatography and subsequent spectrophotometry.
