BEHAVIORS OF TRICHLOROMONOFLUOROMETHANE AND PERFURMES MIXTURE IN 95% ALCOHOL SOLUTION

In our country cheap and flammable propllents for aerosol products is generally used, but not flammable propellents have been gradually used with the progress of the aerosol industry.Trichloromonofluoromethane (DF-11), one of non-flammable chlorofluro carbons, in generally considered to be unstable and decompose easily.Aerosol products, especially most of the hair lacquers, containing 95% alcohol as solvent for all effective ingredients and perfumes, are pachaged in uncoated metal containers.It has been known that DF-11/95% alcohol system is stable and does not decompose in the absence of metal. However, it has not been made clear what causes the decomposition of the system when it contacts metal and contains perfumes and film-forming materials.This paper presents the chemical behaviours of the DF-11/95% alcohol;/perfume solution system and the corrosion of metal containers which were obtained by observing the pressure-pachaged containers storaged outside every a certain period of time for such a long time as 6 months.In addition, this report also describes the effect of DF-11 on the (odcr) of perfume which wes observed by a functional test in the same was as mentioned above.As a result, most of the representative 180 different kind hair lacquer perfumes tested, with some exceptions such as Guaiol acetate, Isoeugenoel, Vetiveryl acetate. Vetiverol and Phenylacetaldehyde, etc. were found to be stable in the presence of DF-11/95% alcohol system and to scarecely give the change of (odor) in the presence of chlorfluoro carbons.Even the perfumes which caused the vigorous decomposition of DF-11 or the corrosion of metal containers did not show the change of (odor). As no relationship between the decomposition or the corrosion and (odor) was found, it was not made clear wheather molecular structures of perfumes are related with the decomposition or the corrosion.It may be necessary to be careful about selection and use when such perfumes as caused the decomposition or the corrosion in this study are used.
