Magnesite resources are poor in Japan, so the studies on oxychloride cement are recently researched about the calcined dolomite etc. In this paper, we aimed at free MgO being in the calcined asbestos, and tried to make the special cement, composed of the calcined Mg (OH) <SUB>2</SUB> from sea water and the calcined asbestos.<BR>The result obtained are summarized as follows : <BR>(1) The calcining temperature to separate free MgO in maximum quantities is 950°C about Mg (OH) <SUB>2</SUB>, and 650°C about asbestos.<BR>(2) The calcining time is enough for 2.5 hours.<BR>(3) The setting time increases as increasing the calcined asbestos, but is superior to the value of JIS, in the extent of mixing under 50% of asbestos.<BR>(4) The bending and compressive strength of the products decrease with increasing asbestos ratio, but are over the value of JIS.<BR>From the strength and the setting time, the trial product of this cement, composed of 40% asbestos calcined at 650°C and 60% Mg (OH) <SUB>2</SUB> calcined at 800°C, was proved to give almost equal qualities to the common magnesia cement.
