The purpose of this investigation was to determine the fire retardant performance of wood framed walls with gypsum lath and plaster facings and to develop the Fire Retardant Clasification for the assemblies.
Seventeen kinds of walls (total fourty three pieces) 0.9m wide and 0.9m high were erected, build of 0.61 or 0.91cm thick lath board and 1.1 or 1.8 cm thick gypsum plaster.
Fire endurance tests were conducted in accordance with the Japanese Standard Specification for Fire Test of Wood framed Constructions and Materials (JIS A 1301).
Clasifications of many pieces were determined by suddenly burnning of the paper of unexposed surface, before unexposed surface temperatures reached the allowable critical end point temperature 260°C, prescribed in the Standard Specification (JIS A 1301).
Walls with total 1.7 cm thick of gypsum lath and plaster were detrmined Class III (15min. wall), use of the interior wall of wood frame, and walls with total 2.0 cm thick were determined class I (25min. wall).
