The effects of clothing materials on wear comfort and microclimate between clothes and skin under exercise were studied using cotton, wool and 50% cotton 50%c acrylic blended fabric. Experiments were conducted in a climatic chamber under the condition of 22.5°C, 57.0%RH 10cm/sec of air movement. A subject took a 21 minutes exercise on the treadmill. Local temperature and vapor pressures were measured inside and outside of the test samples of the T-shirts type garments at chest and back. The subject marked a ballot to communicate her sense of sweating, soaking, thermal sensation and comfort sensation. The local wettedness on skin and fabric were calculated. All fabrics used were no wettable and similar in the physico-chemical properties. Microclimates were similar in temperature, whereas different in humidity. Absolute humidities of microclimate in a wool clothed subject were higher than those of microclimate in the other fabrics. There is significant difference among clothing materials for absolute humidity in the increasing and the decreasing periods of microclimate humidity. There was significant difference among fabrics in each sensation. Sense of sweating and thermal sensation closely related to temperature and vapor pressure between cloth and skin. Moisture content in clothing had a high correlation with four subjective sensations. The local wettedness on skin after exercise in a wool clothed subject was larger than that in a cotton and acrylic wool blended fabric clothed subject. The local wettedness on skin had a correration with comfort sensation. Especially, skin wettedness during the increasing period in the microclimate humidity had a higher correlation with the comfort sensation during experiment.
