Fifty-nine knees with a mean follow up period of 2.5 years after meniscectomy were evaluated clinically and radiographically.<BR>The results were the best in the lateral discoid group. The factors associated with poor results were ligament injury, an age at operation of over 40 years, and original cartilage damage. Osteoarthritic changes shown on the roentgenograms were also related to poor results, except with the discoid group. Preoperative duration of symptoms and the type of meniscal tear had no relationship to the results in this short-term study.
