Surgical Treatment of Osteochondritis of the Capitellum using a New Procedure, the "Lift-up" Method.

Osteochondritis dissecans of the elbow is classified into 3 groups: rarefaction group, separation group and detached group. The rarefaction group is treated nonoperatively by rest, protection and splinting, and the detached group by removal of all free bodies. However, in treating the separation group by excision of the loose avascular bone or reattachment of loose bone, there has been no good way to reattach the avascular bone. Recently we developed a new procedure for this, the so-called "lift up" method using pull-out wires. This procedure can be used in combination with bone peg graft, and in the five cases on which it has been performed, bony union was obtained in all.
