The abstract of this studies is as follows;Very good α CaSO4⋅1/2H2O crystals were made by wet process studied in the previous report (Gypsum, 5, 13, 1952). But at that time we found some difficulties in separating the solution and later drying of the crystals. Semidry process was studied to get rid of those difficulties of the wet process.Raw gypsum was moistened with a small quantities of Na-succinade solution and was heated in an autoclave with constant agitation for 3 hours at 125°C under saturated pressure, Then the valve of the autoclave was opened and the pressure was dropped to the atmospheric pressure and the hemihydrate was dried keeping the temperature above 85°C with constant stir.The addition of Na-succinate was effective in getting good α⋅CaSO4⋅1/2H2O crystals only wheen there was some water addition. The optimum fineness of raw gypsum was found to be from 10 to 80 meshes, especially from 40 to 60 meshes of Tylor sieves, when there was some addition of Na-succinate solution.The more the solution added the better was the plaster obtained, but taking consideration of some difficulties in the wet process about 10% addition of the solution will be preberable.The presence of Na-sucinate in the solution in the process contributes to the crysialization of good αCaSO4⋅1/2H2O and diminishes the standard mixing water of the plaster. But the presence of Na-sluccinate in the plaster, as in the present case, is always harmful for the developement of strengfh of the set plaster.
