The growth of dengue type 3 virus in 2 Indonesian colonies of <I>Aedes aegypti</I> (Surabaya strain) and <I>Aedes albopictus</I> (Malang strain) was studied in the oral infection system, compared with the growth of chikungunya virus in <I>Aedes aegypti</I> as a control. In all combinations of the virus and the host mosquito, maximum mean titers were as high as about 106 to 108 FFU per mosquito 8 to 12 days after infection. This result suggests that in addition to <I>Aedes aegypti</I>, <I>Aedes albopictus</I> is a possible important vector involved in dengue hemorrhagic fever epidemics in rural areas of Indonesia.
