We report a case of Merkel cell carcinoma that developed in the auricle. Histologically, the tumor exhibited a trabecular pattern extending from the upper layer of the dermis to the subcutaneous tissue. Immunohistologically, the tumor was positive for neuron specific enolase (NSE). Electron microscopy revealed the presence of dense core granules similar to Merkel cell granules in the tumor cells. The tumor was therefore diagnosed as Merkel cell carcinoma. The tumor was removed by total auriclectomy, and the tumor site and regional lymph nodes were irradiated to prevent recurrence. Postoperative progress has been satisfactory, with no local recurrence or metastasis detected after 2 years.
