Subjective disability in activities of daily living was statistically investigated on the 83 patients with vertigo (25 males, 58 females, mean age: 60.8 years old), based on the longitudinal study with mean follow-up period of 2.8 months. These patients were treated mainly with oral medication. Vestibular symptons improved significantly in the two groups with vertigo of peripheral origin and of central origin. In the group of peripheral disorder, subjective disability especially in a quick turn during walking and a head positioning improved most significantly. But no significant improvement was observed in the group of central origin. In conclusion, an investigation by means of a self-rating questionnaire was considered to be useful for evaluating chronological changes of disability of the patients with vertigo of peripheral origin in activities of daily living. On the other hand, a more effective therapeutics or another method for evaluation of therapeutic effectiveness should be explored with regard to subjective disability of daily living of the patients with vertigo of central orlgln.
