A case of postoperative vertigo in a cholesteatoma patient is presented. Patients with vertigo are studied with respect to the three items; 1. fear of vertigo, 2. influence of vertigo on their daily lives, and 3. the first disease which the patients thought of they were suffering from in the attack of vertigo. The study showed that 63.8% had fear of vertigo, 71.6% thought that the causes of their vertigo was cerebral vascular disease or brain tumor and that 53.3% felt the infulence of vertigo on their daily lives.<BR>In order to obtain successful results from the rehabiltation the proper instruction to the patients and their families is important. It consists of giving appropriate knowlege on the pathology, causes and prognosis of vertigo to exclude their fear of vertigo and the advice on how to avoid the postures and actions which aggravate their imbalance. What is required in the rehabilitation of vertig is the treatment of vertigo and the instruction of the patients and their family. The succssful results cannot be obtained without the participation of otolaryngologists.
