In the case of an AC MHD generator with a rectangular channel the gas tends to flow near the side walls. An upright annular channel is proposedto avoid this defect. The difficult problem in this device will be that the flow is apt to be turbulent.<BR>In the cas of a DC MHD generator the voltage loss due to the cooled electrodes is estimated and it is found that the loss is not serious for the electrode temperature low down to about 1, 250°K. The data of electrode drops given by. Rosa and Brogan et al. are compared and explained. The difficult problem in this DC type may be to obtain the discharge by a uniform current.
