Classification of flyash particles by bench scale louver separator has been investigated both experimentally and theoretically. A new type of louver blades, which were designed based on Joukowski's theory, showed a classification performance superior to the flat-type blades. The classification performance changed with the angle of louver blades, and the optimum blade angle of the Joukowski's type was 50deg. while it was 70deg. for the flat ones.A finite-element method was used to solve Navier-Stokes equations. The calculated partial sepatation efficiency agreed with the experimental ones.Unburned carbon content in the fine-particle fraction decreased to 20 weight percent when the louver had a good classification performance.
