The cyclone performance of separation efficiency has been experimentally studied by using three similar but different cyclone diameters, ∅72, ∅154 and ∅343, with mainly fine calcium carbonate powder(JIS, No. 17) and two types of particle size measurement instruments. The pressure loss does not change for similar scale up cyclones, and the collection efficiency declines for larger size cyclones. The classification sharpness of partial separation efficiency also appears to deteriorate for larger cyclones than those with a diameter of about ∅200 to 300.Both the instrument types to measure the particle size and the test powder samples have a large effect on the partial separation efficiency values. Therefore the evaluation should be executed by the use of both the same instrument and the same powder sample.
