Cancer in Cancer: A Case Report of Thyroid Cancer Metastasis in Lung Cancer.

A 70-year-old female patient with diabetes mellitus was hospitalized for further examinations of elevated CEA value.<BR>Thyroid cancer of the right thyroid lobe and lung cancer of the right upper lobe were detected and operated on simultaneously. The postoperative pathological diagnosis for the thyroid tumor was papillary adenocarcinoma. The lesion of the lung was diagnosed as adenocarcinoma (alveolar cell type). In addition, metastasis of papillary adenocarcinoma of the thyroid gland was found in the adenocarcinoma (alveolar cell type) of the lung. Although double cancers are not uncommon nowadays, metastasis of cancer within another coexisting cancer in the same individual is very rare.<BR>To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of papillary adenocarcinoma of the thyroid metastatic within an adenocarcinoma lesion of the lung.
