A case of mediastinal malignant fibrous histiocytoma is reported. A 60-year-old man developed cough and dyspnea one month before and was admitted as an emergency case with a diagnosis of left heart failure. A chest X-ray film showed a large mediastinal mass, which expanded at extraordinarily high speed. We could not diagnose this case before death, but active chemotherapy (CPA, VDS and ADM) was administered. However, he died, three days later of multiple organic failure.<BR>Autopsy examination revealed a large L-shaped posterior-mediastinal tumor invading into the right lung, and histologically the lesion was diagnosed as malignant fibrous histiocytoma.
