A 73-year-old man was admitted because of bloody sputum. The chest X-ray film demonstrated a tumor shadow in the left middle lung field. Bronchoscopy revealed a red mass obstructing B3 with irregular mucosa extending to the orifice of the left upper bronchus. A biopsy of the specimen revealed squamous cell carcinoma containing elements of adenocarcinoma. Pathological examination during the operation permitted sleeve lobectomy, saving the lower lobe. The patient enjoys good health with a favorable performance status for four years after the operation. The final histological report was double primary lung cancer consisting of adenocarcinoma with early stage squamous cell carcinoma in the same lobe.
