The concentration and X-ray microanalysis of chromium in the lung tissues of a chromate worker with multicentric lung cancer

A sixty-six year-old chromate worker with multicentric lung cancer was repori ed. There were two separated epidermoid carcinomas in the left lung, one from the upper lobe bronchus and the other from the lower lobe bronchus. His left lung was resected and the specimen was studied by the messurement of concentration and the X-ray microanalysis of chromium. Generally, the higher concentration of chromium was observed in the tissues with abundant anthracosis. The chromium was mainly composed of Cr +3. By X-ray microanalysis, particles derived from inhaled chromium dust were foundespecially in the tissues with anthracosis.
