Gamma ray-irradiations have been applied during and after the reactions of 125I+ from the 125Xe(EC)125I process with methane in a gaseous phase. In the former case, the apparent yield of CH3125I, being the major product, decreased with an increase in the irradiation time. After 125Xe contained in the sample has decayed out, any further irradiation had no significant influence on the distribution of products, and the yields stayed at constant values, depending upon the reaction systems. In the latter case, the yields of products were also influenced in a proportion to the total dose up to 6×106R. Afterwards, the yields tended to be constant at similar values in the former case. The values at these equilibrium were as follows: In the system containing O2, CH3125I; about 2%, and in the presence of SF6, both CH3125I and C2H5125I; about 10%. The latter product was noticed only in the absence of a radical scavenger. Thus, its formation will involve the reactions of radiolysis products from methane.
