Much study has been undertaken in recent times in Japan and in other countries on the sodium-water reaction. These studies can be classified into three categories:
(1) on large leak phenomena, (2) on small leak phenomena, (3) on detection and safety aspects of the reaction.
The reports reviews the principal trends and present status of these studies in each category. A description is also given of some of the important research facilities and their activities.
